Pirates everywhere react in distress after learning Shakuyaku had disappeared from Hachinosu. A year later, Garling leads the Marines, including Dragon, to God Valley to round up the country's citizens and prepare for the Native Hunting Competition. The news leaks that Shakuyaku is held at God Valley during the event, prompting the Rocks Pirates and Roger Pirates to go rescue her, with Garp on his way as well. The Rocks Pirates are confronted by Harald during their trip, but Rocks decides to talk with him, where he reveals to Harald his connection to the legendary pirate Davy D. Jones and the Davy Family. Rocks states his true motive is to save his wife and child on God Valley, but after Harald refuses to help him, he attacks Harald's ship. At God Valley, the World Nobles gather for the competition, with Shakuyaku as the grand prize, and the targets including Teach, the first member of the Davy Family identified in 800 years.
Detailed Summary
Chaos descends onto Hachinosu when Shakky gets kidnapped, and Marlon, who was standing guard watching her with some others, was found dead. Though no one within the Rocks Pirates knew who did this, the culprit was Ochoku, who handed her over for a sizeable reward. Out at sea, news about her kidnapping spread like wildfire, and when Roger learns, he angrily declares he will kill Rocks for letting this happen.
Thirty-eight years before the present day, Garling returned to God Valley, where he meets his twin children. Their mother asks Garling to live with her on God Valley, but he declares that will not be possible as the island will disappear very soon. In addition, Garling states he has already put an order in for a wife that he thinks is more fitting for him, and if all goes well for him during the competition, he will get what he desires. Though Shanks and Shamrock's mother is confused by Garling's words, he mercilessly strikes her down and orders the Marines to start invading the island. As the Marines start neutralizing the citizens, one of them, a rookie Monkey D. Dragon, questions the purpose of this operation, but his superior officer rebukes him saying he should not be thinking, just following orders. Though Dragon was uncomfortable with the orders, he figured as long as he was using tranquilizers nothing too bad would happen.
Meanwhile, the slaves being escorted to God Valley for the competition manage to leak information regarding it to an outside source, who ended up being a young Morgans. Once Morgans publishes the story, news reaches Hachinosu as they learn Shakky will be a prize in the Native Hunting Competition, to their fury. Some, like Linlin, took more notice of the Devil Fruits being listed as prizes, offering to give one to Kaidou while secretly planning to get some for her children. Streusen wonders if this is a trap, but Rocks yells that everyone who is not committed will go to God Valley to retrieve her. News of her location would eventually reach Roger, and he becomes determined to beat Rocks to her. Eventually, Garp learns that Roger is heading there, thus setting stage for the event. While on route, the Rocks Pirates cross paths with Harald, who was ordered to stop him while the World Government monitors from afar. Though annoyed that Harald is still bending a knee to them, Rocks asks if they can talk in private. Once they do, Rocks confides to Harald his most closely guarded secret: his real name is Davy D. Xebec.
Rocks explains to Harald that he has long suspected that the World Government has been trying to cover up the existence of the Davy Clan because they are the descendants of the legendary pirate Davy D. Jones, and he has only survived this far by hiding in the shadows of the Underworld. Rocks tells Harald he had a child two years ago and he sent his wife and son to God Valley for safekeeping because it is their home, and the real reason Rocks is going to God Valley, which none of the other crew know. Harald asks if all of this was a trap to lure him out, but Rocks does not believe it since the World Nobles are involved and they would not want him to be there, which Rocks considers their fatal mistake. Though Rocks states he doesn't care what happens as long as his family is okay, he does ask Harald for his help since he does not think he will survive this incident. Harald refuses and the two have a brief clash, but Rocks ultimately escapes.
Before the tournament began, the prizes for the event were announced, with Shakky being the top prize, having been kept clean and well-fed for the event, with the option to either make her someone's wife or slave. Several World Nobles wanted her for themselves, with some of them, like a young Sommers, planning to make her his personal slave, while Garling planned to take her as his wife, as he said. Elsewhere, Dragon finds Shanks and Shamrock's dying mother, who begs him not to let Garling take her children, while a young Teach, who was captured along with his mother, is comforted by her, who urges him to live through whatever happens next. Unfortunately, after Kuma is announced as one of the rare targets for the competition, they announce that Teach, as a member of the long-thought-to-be extinct Davy Clan, is worth the most points.
